Smart Delete requests minimal necessary access to provide core email cleanup functionality. All data processing occurs within Google's secure infrastructure.
Gmail Add-on Execute Access
Scope: gmail.addons.execute
Purpose: Enable Gmail Add-on functionality and user interface integration within Gmail sidebar
User Control: Only operates when user explicitly opens the Smart Delete add-on in Gmail
Read Current Email
Scope: gmail.addons.current.message.readonly
Purpose: This permission is used to read specific, limited details of the email that is currently open in a user's Gmail tab. The add-on uses this to get the sender's email and the subject line.
What we DON'T access: Email body content, attachments, or personal communications content
Gmail Modify Access
Scope: gmail.modify
Purpose: Allows the add-on to move email threads to the trash. This permission is necessary to perform the primary function of the add-on: deleting unwanted emails.
Safety: Emails moved to Trash only (recoverable for 30 days), never permanently deleted
Apps Script Properties
Scope: script.scriptapp
Purpose: Save user-specific settings and data, such as your custom deletion rules and the deletion queue.
User Control: Used internally to store your rules and settings within your Google account's script properties. No data is shared with or accessible by the developer.
Gmail Read Access
Scope: gmail.readonly
Purpose: Search across the user's entire mailbox. This is necessary to find all emails that match the user-defined deletion rules (e.g., all emails from "promotions@example.com" that are older than 30 days). No email content is read or stored.
Safety: The add-on only uses it to find emails based on your custom rules.

Scope: script.container.ui
Purpose: Enable Gmail add-on interface integration and background processing for large cleanup operations
User Control: Only operates when explicitly authorized through Gmail add-on interface
